Thiruvananthapuram: Initiating tough measures to rein in eve-teasers, the City police have apprehended around 200 people from across the State capital as part of a drive, titled ‘Operation Romeo’.

The drive, led by Deputy Commissioner of Police G. Jaidev, was launched in wake of numerous complaints raised by women and children regarding instances of harassment they have faced near educational institutions, bus stands, hospital premises and other public places. The drive was undertaken jointly by the city police and the shadow police wing, including women police officers.

While cases have been registered against around 80 persons, petty cases have been lodged against around 120 people, the police said. The drive will intensified in the coming days, according to District Police Chief (Thiruvananthapuram City) P. Prakash.
