The Left Democratic Front (LDF) in its manifesto for the city Corporation elections has promised to introduce a number of programmes to make the city clean by giving a further push to decentralised garbage management; make all its citizen-centric services online; provide online file monitoring facility through mobile phones; formation of a vigilance cell; setting up of a bureau to promote marriage without dowry; a city employment exchange; a separate fund to provide financial assistance to students from weaker sections; and a special development package for Kazhakuttam.
The manifesto, which was released at a function held here to introduce the LDF candidates for the Corporation election, has around 100 commitments covering sectors such as general administration, waste management, education, road, power, health, culture, women’s development, sports, and social welfare.
The front has promised a solution to dumping of waste in public places. A centre will be established at Vilappilsala to carryout research in waste management.
The front has promised to find a viable solution to the stray dog problem as well to introduce a special programme titled ‘Death with dignity’ to give a ‘decent’ death to street dogs with incurable diseases and grievous wounds.
Communist Party of India leader C. Divakaran released the manifesto by handing over a copy to Vidya Mohan, the youngest candidate, contesting from Thycaud.
‘Test case’
Addressing the function, Communist Party of India (Marxist) State unit secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said civic body elections would be a test case to find whether the ‘decisive’ politics promoted by the Bharatiya Janata Party had any space to flourish in the State.
