One killed, eight injured over water dispute

A 45-year-old man was killed and eight others injured over a disputeon sharing of water from a public tank in the Fishermen's colony atMelekollencode near Pozhiyoor on Friday.

According to the rural police, the deceased has been identified as Arulappan Singaram. The dispute over the sharing of the drinking water by women in the colony led to the clashes between members of the same community. The injured were first rushed to Government Hospital in Parasala and Neyattinkara and later shifted to Medical College hospital.

A heavy posse of police led by the Superintendent of Police, Rural, N. Gopalakrishnan is camping in the site. Rural police said the situation was under control.
