One killed as mini-bus overturns

A 50-year-old man was killed and several persons injured when the mini-bus they were travelling in rammed into an electric post and overturned at Pattoor on Monday.

According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Ajayakumar of Kadinamkulam. The incident took place by around 12.30 p.m. at the Pattoor junction when the group of nineteen people, including women, were headed for Kadinamkulam after participating in a demonstration organised by the INTUC in front of the Secretariat.

The driver of the bus lost control of the vehicle as it passed the traffic signal and went on to ram into a post erected on the divider. Ajayakumar was trapped as the bus overturned. Despite being rushed to the Thiruvananthapuram Government Medical College Hospital, his life could not be saved.

As many as 11 people, including three women, were admitted to the Thiruvananthapuram Government Medical College Hospital with considerable injuries. Others who sustained minor injuries were admitted at the General Hospital. The city traffic police have registered a case in connection with the incident.
