One killed, 16 injured in accident at Ponmudi

One man was killed and 16 people injured after the vehicle they were travelling in fell into a ditch at a hairpin curve near Ponmudi on Sunday.

The incident occurred by around 4 p.m. when the picnickers, mostly hailing from Parippally in Kollam, were returning after a visit to the Ponmudi hill station.

During an attempt to negotiate the second hairpin curve, the driver, 27-year-old Deepak, lost control of the Tempo Traveller, following which it fell into the ditch.

Sugunan, 54, who hailed from Parippally, was thrown out of the vehicle and is believed to have been crushed under the vehicle.

Despite being rushed to the Vithura taluk hospital, the doctors could not save his life.
