Antony, 54, one of the three fishermen who went missing after they ventured into the sea off the Kazhakuttom coast three days ago, was rescued on Tuesday. He was spotted clinging to a diesel can off the Vizhinjam coast by a group of fishermen from Kanyakumari fishing in the area.

The fishermen alerted the Indian Coast Guard ship, P150, and the vessel rescued Antony. He was later handed over to the Vizhinjam coastal police. The other two, Yohannan and Michael, remained untraced, the police said.

Quoting Antony, the police said the fishermen set sail on Sunday evening and by midnight, their fibre boat capsized. Initially, all three managed to stay afloat by clinging to plastic cans. After a while, two of them tried to swim to another boat which they spotted, Antony said. The crew of the boat did not notice them and then he lost sight of them, Antony said.
