A festival office to oversee this year’s State-wide Onam celebrations was opened at the Tourism Directorate here on Thursday. Tourism Minister A.P. Anil Kumar inaugurated the office. Addressing a press conference, Palode Ravi, MLA, general convener for the celebrations, said this year’s celebrations would give priority to traditional art forms with a special venue for Kathakali.

The celebrations would be held from September 14 to 20.

Kanakakkunnu and Vyloppilly Samskrithi Bhavan would be the main venues of the celebrations in the capital. A floral arrangement contest would be held at Government Women’s College.

A kite-flying competition at Shangumugham would be an added attraction this time.

Mayor K. Chandrika and Tourism Secretary Suman Billa were present the press meet.
