Notice issued to 14 hotels, fine collected

The Thiruvananthapuram Corporation has issued notice to 14 hotels that failed to comply with sanitation procedures.

It also imposed fine on 18 persons for dumping garbage in open places. A fine of Rs.10,200 was collected from them.

During the last one week, the health wing of the civic body conducted checks in 34 hotels.

Fourteen of them were found not complying with safety standards.

Rectify defects

They were asked to rectify the defects, a release from the Corporation said here on Saturday.

Drive against plastic

Similarly, a drive was conducted in shops to find whether banned plastic items were being sold.

Nine shops were found to be selling been selling banned items.

As a punitive measure against this, Rs. 15,050 was collected as fine from them.

Working on Sunday

The Office of the Corporation Health Inspector would function on Sunday, officials said.

This was because Sunday was the last day for hotel owners to remit licence fee without fine, the release from the Corporation added.
