Manjalamkuzhi Ali to convene meeting of all stakeholders

The Muttathara sewage treatment plant will not have two separate inaugural functions as announced earlier. As the Corporation authorities and Urban Affairs Minister Manjalamkuzhi Ali reached a settlement, both parties cancelled the separate inaugural functions and decided to plan a grand one together.

The settlement came about after Health Minister V.S. Sivakumar, the local MLA, held discussions with Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, Mr. Ali, and Corporation Mayor K. Chandrika.

The new date will be decided after a meeting of all stakeholders to be convened by Mr. Ali, sources said.

The controversy sprang up on Tuesday after Mr. Ali announced that Mr. Chandy would inaugurate the plant on November 27.

In protest against the ‘one-sided decision making’ by the Minister, the Corporation authorities went ahead and announced their inaugural function which was to be presided over by Ms. Chandrika on November 25.

The Mayor had alleged that the Minister was trying to steal the credit for implementing the plant with an eye on the Lok Sabha elections.
