The Academic Council of the University of Kerala, at its meeting here on Monday, decided to do away with the entrance examination for the BA mass communication and video production course from this year.

As in the case of other subjects, admission to this course will be made on the basis of the marks scored by a candidate in the qualifying examination. Those have who studied journalism during Plus Two would be given a 10 per cent weight.

The council resolved not to clear the admission given to a candidate for the MA English programme at University College in violation of the regulations.

The Principal of the college would be asked to explain how admission was given to a candidate who was not eligible for the same. The council also decide to report the issue to the Director of Collegiate Education.

The council resolved to grant recognition to the distance education MA programme of Manonmaniam Sundaranar University.

The B.Sc. police science and criminology course of this university will be considered a qualifying degree for admission to the MTA programme and the M.Sc. software engineering (regular) degree programme and for applying for jobs.

However, the weekend M.Tech. programme would not be recognised from the 2012 admissions.

Recognition would also not be given to the M.Sc. data communication degree of Periyar University.

The council sent back to the Board of Study concerned the question of granting recognition to the doctoral degree in biotechnology of Vinayaka Missions University, a deemed university. The M.Sc. medical microbiology (regular) degree of Amritha Vishwa Vidyapeetham would be considered valid for higher studies.

The council resolved to recognise the B.Sc. plant biology degree of Bharathiar University given through Nallamuthu Gounder Mahalingam College, Pollachi; the MA economics degree of Madurai Kamraj University given through American College; the MA public administration course of the Indira Gandhi National Open University; the distance education MA sociology of Sri Venkateswara University., Tirupathi, and the M.Phil. politics and international studies of Pondicherry University.

Recognition would not be given to the B.Sc. district education computer science degree of Bharathiar University given through Christu Jyothi College of Management.

The council resolved to recognise the distance education BA political science degree (English medium) of Annamalai University. The BBM (regular) degree of Kannur University would be considered equivalent to the BBA degree.

Recognition was also given to the MA English degree given by Madurai Kamraj University through the Loyola autonomous college.
