Nine months after they wrote their fourth-semester choice-based credit-and-semester degree examinations, students of the University of Kerala — who are now in their final semester — are still waiting for the results.
Though the fourth-semester examinations of the 2010 batch got over in April 2012, the centralised valuation camp for these examinations was conducted only in September. By November, the marks of all answer papers were with the university. However, the tabulation of the marks of these examinations is yet to be completed.
Sources in the university told The Hindu that only after the results of the fourth-semester examinations were published could the university get down to tabulating the results of the second-semester examinations of the 2011 admissions, held in June 2012.
“The final-semester students of the 2010 admissions need to write their final examinations during March-April. Before that they need to know whether any improvement in their marks is called for. Right now, it is unclear when the fourth-semester results will get published,” a university official explained.
An argument put forward by some sources in the university is that the administrative delay in processing the fourth-semester results was mainly due to the fact that the choice-based credit-and-semester system (CBCSS) wing had only eight sections with limited employees. “Despite repeated and fervent pleas, the university did not allocate more personnel for the CBCSS wing. Only in December 2012 the wing was expanded to 15 sections.”
Another reason that is said to have delayed—and still is—the results is the tardiness on the part of many colleges in handing over the data related to continuous evaluation and student attendance. This problem has plagued the university ever since the commencement of the CBCSS; the university seems to have done precious little to tackle the same.
On Tuesday, the Pro-Vice Chancellor reportedly convened a meeting of the CBCSS wing and sought explanations for the undue delay in the publication of the results. University officials are said to have promised the PVC to bring out the results in little over a week.
