New norms for registration of vehicles to be effective from today

April 02, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:43 am IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

The new norms for the online temporary registration of the motor vehicles being introduced by the Motor Vehicles Department will come into force from Saturday.

As per this, temporary registration will be allowed only through online and the fees, tax and the cess will have to be remitted along with the application to the MVD.

The mobile number and e-mail of the person purchasing the vehicle, form 22, signature, address proof and photo should be uploaded. The vehicles seeking tax exemption – government vehicles, those of the physically challenged and those to be registered in other States – should approach the Regional Transport Officer well in advance and get the order and upload the same.

In case of hypothecation, the details of the bank or financial institution should be uploaded. In case the application is rejected or returned, it should be forwarded within 24 hours after rectifying the mistake. Only applications received before 2 p.m. will be considered on the same day. The applications should be submitted to the jurisdiction of the respective MVD where the dealer has been given the authority.

State Transport Commissioner Tomin J. Thachankary said the trade certificates of the dealer will be suspended if the dealer is found to have submitted the application in another area violating the norms. The application for the permanent registration of the vehicle should also be submitted online. Henceforth, vehicles will be delivered from the showroom only on producing the print of the temporary registration application.

According to the new rules, temporary registration should now be done online
