NCC campaign against plastic waste on June 5

June 01, 2010 02:37 pm | Updated 02:37 pm IST - Thiruvananthapuram:

As many as 1,000 NCC cadets are expected to participate in a campaign against plastic waste on June 5, World Environment Day.

The cadets will remove biodegradable and plastic waste from the Chandrasekharan Nair Stadium, Shanghumughom beach, Veli tourist village, East Fort bus terminal and the Varkala beach as part of the programme.

A press note issued here said the campaign was being organised to create awareness about the hazards of plastic waste and the need to enlist public support for environment-protection activities.

The programme will take-off with the inauguration of the Environment Day Run organised by Green Uday Samudra at the Chandrasekharan Nair Stadium. The cadets will later establish plastic collection stalls, present skits and plays and make public announcements. They will also interact with the public and display banners and placards on environment related themes.

The participants will be grouped into four-member teams and handed over a recycled collection bag provided by the pollution control board. Teams collecting a certain quantity of plastic waste will be presented with interesting prizes.
