Survey shows close fight, narrow edge for UDF

May 03, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:47 am IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

A pre-poll survey commissioned by the ruling United Democratic Front (UDF) has predicted that the State will witness a close electoral battle, with the ruling alliance enjoying a narrow edge.

According to a press note issued by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy’s office here on Monday, the survey has concluded that the UDF will get 45 per cent vote and the Left Democratic Front (LDF) 43 per cent.

This will translate to 69 to 73 seats for the UDF and 65 to 69 seats for the LDF.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will not get more than 12 per cent votes.

According to the release, 90 per cent of those who participated in the survey endorsed the UDF government’s liquor policy, 50 per cent being very strong in their endorsement.

Solar scandal a hitch

However, a sizeable segment was of the view that the solar scandal would adversely affect the ruling alliance.

The survey says the United Democratic Front will benefit from the work it had done for the development of infrastructure as well as its social sector interventions. Half of those who participated in the survey were of the view that crime rate had gone up in the State.

Participants in the survey were also of the view that LDF legislators were better performers compared to their UDF counterparts.
