Gujarat Chief Minister and BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi on Thursday morning called on members of the erstwhile royal family of Travancore before leaving to Kollam to take part in the 60 birthday celebrations of Mata Amritanandmayi.
Mr Modi reached the Travancore Palace at Kowdiar around 8. 30 a.m and was received by head of the royal family Uthradom Thirunal Marthanda Varma and his immediate family members. Mr Varma wished Mr Modi for being appointed as BJP’s prime ministerial candidate for the 2014 general elections. He also handed over to the Gujarat Chief Minister a book on the history of the Travancore family, a few old photographs and artefacts.
Representatives of organisations such as Akhila Bharathiya Guruvayorappan Bhaktha Samathi, Sree Narayana Global Mission, Sree Narayana Dharma Vedi, Global Hindu Confluence, Vidyadhi Raja Sabha, and Human Rights Protection Council were also present.
President of Guruvayorappan Bhaktha Samathi, G Ashokan told The Hindu that they brought to the notice of Mr Modi on the need to build up a campaign against the recent move by Reserve Bank of India to assess and evaluate gold reserves in temples. Representatives of the organisations also briefed him about various decisions of the Central Government and States which are detrimental to the interest of Hindus, he said.
