Music awards announced

: The song ‘Olanjaalikkuruvi…” from the film 1983 has been chosen for this year’s Swaralaya-Eenam award.

Announcing the award at a news conference here on Saturday, Swaralaya chairman G. Rajmohan and Eenam International chairman C.C. Thampi said the song, written by B.K. Harinarayanan, set to music by Gopisundar and sung by P. Jayachandran and Vani Jayaram, would get a purse of Rs.50,000, a citation and a statuette as the award.

They said the song ‘Thamasamenthe varuvan’ was selected as the evergreen song. The song, written by the late P. Bhaskaran, set to music by the late M.S. Baburaj and sung by K.J. Yesudas would get a cash prize of Rs.1.50 lakh. The prize would be distributed among Yesudas and the family members of P. Bhaskaran and M.S. Baburaj.

Veteran singer Pappukkutty Bhagavathar has been chosen for the 'Suvarna Pratibha' award, which has a purse of Rs.50,000, citation and a memento. The 103-year-old veteran musician, also known as Kerala Saigal, continues his musical journey even today, they pointed out.

They said the awards would be presented at the Swaralaya-Kairali-Yesudas award ceremony here on May 27. Poet O.N.V. Kurup would be honoured with the award by singer Yesudas. Singer Unni Menon would be presented an award for popular music.
