Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has said that he did not agree with the view of Union Minister of State for Home Mullappally Ramachandran that the police investigation into the T.P. Chandrasekharan murder case is inadequate.
Addressing a press conference on the second anniversary of the UDF government here on Friday, the police had investigated the case in an efficient manner and he did not share Mr. Ramachandran’s view regarding the investigation. He did not know under what circumstances Mr. Ramachandran had commented on the investigation.
The Chief Minister said that his government had performed well during the two years in office.
The slender majority for the government in the Assembly and the problems in the ruling front did not affect decision-making.
Differences of opinions were settled through discussions while results were achieved through united action. The Cabinet had worked as a team and each Minister had fulfilled his or her role. The government had the full backing of the Congress party and the United Democratic Front. Mr. Chandy said the flagship programmes of the government such as the Kochi Metro, SmartCity, Kannur airport, Vizhinjam port, and Kollam-Kottappuram national waterway were heading towards fulfilment.
The formal inauguration of the Kochi Metro project would take place on June 5. The first phase of construction of the SmartCity project would start in July. Technical bids for runway of Kannur airport had been invited and work would start soon.
He said that one of the biggest achievements was the student entrepreneurship policy and setting up of the start-up village as well as innovation zone for incubation of projects.
Additional skill acquisition programme and skill enhancement programme were introduced to improve employability of the youth.
The accounts of all public sector units (PSUs) had been made up-to-date. As many as 22 PSUs had made profits totalling Rs.35 crore last year against the government spending of Rs.70 crore a year on PSUs.
The revenue from State lotteries had increased from Rs.557 crore during the last year of LDF rule to Rs.2,780 crore during the last financial year.
He said the e-district programme had been implemented in all districts and 23 services were now being provided online. The Right to Services Act had been implemented in 57 government departments and the initial plan was to cover 29 departments.
