The police have submitted charges in the Surya murder case. The victim, Surya S. Nair, 23, was found dead with her throat slit on a byroad abutting the public bus stand in Attingal on January 27.

The police arrested Shiju, 26, alleged to be a close friend of Surya, in connection with the murder. Investigators found him in an unconscious state with his veins slit in a lodge in Kollam the same day. They booked Shiju on the charge of attempting to commit suicide. The police said unrequited love was the motive for the murder.
