Motorcycle catches fire

A motorcycle which was leaving a petrol-filling station at Kallara in the Venjaramoodu police station limits caught fire on at 4.30 p.m. on Monday. Local people and the employees of the petrol station rushed to the spot and doused the flames.

Shaji of Muthuvila, near Kallara, was riding the two-wheeler. The cause of the incident was being ascertained, the Pangode police said.

Team inspects vehicle

Experts from the Forensic Sciences Laboratory (FSL) inspected the ambulance of the 108 service that caught fire at Venjaramoodu on Sunday.

Circle Inspector, Venjaramoodu, K.R. Biju said the cause of the fire could be ascertained only after the team submitted its report. The police would initiate an inquiry on its basis, he said. The police questioned the driver and the emergency medical technician of the ambulance.

Health Minister Adoor Prakash had directed the officials of the national Rural Health Mission to ensure safety of all vehicles operated under the 108 service.

Police officer injured

Assistant sub-inspector, Fort police station, V.R. Ashokan was injured after he was reportedly attacked by a gang near his house at Vel Nagar, Thamalam, under the Poojappura police station limits on Sunday. Mr. Ashokan was admitted to the General Hospital. There had been a construction related dispute between the officer and some others, the police said. The Poojappura police recorded the statements of Mr. Ashokan's wife, and their 12-year-old son.

Boy repatriated

A 16-year-old boy who walked out of the Special Home, Poojappura, was taken back to the Home by local people and the police. The boy was found moving around the place at noon. No case had been registered, the police said.

Man killed

Raju, 43, of Puthuvelpuradom, Pallithura, Kulathoor, was killed when the motorcycle he was travelling collided with a lorry near the Infosys campus on the Kazhakuttom-Inchivila bypass at 4.30 p.m. on Monday.
