More closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras will be installed in the city during the Pongala festival, V. Sivankutty, MLA, has said.

Mr. Sivankutty chaired a meeting to review the preparations for the festival here. He said in a release that a decision had been taken to set up more CCTV cameras in the city, particularly near the Attukal temple. He denied reports that the Corporation had withdrawn its cleaning staff from the festival area.

The civic body and 30 government departments were working round-the-clock to ensure a hassle-free Pongala, Mr. Sivankutty said.

The meeting was attended by Corporation health standing committee chairperson S. Pushpalatha, City Police Commissioner H. Venketesh, Deputy Collector Karthik, officials of the district administration, and the police.
