Mayor V.K. Prasanth inaugurated a project for the preparation of a model land use pattern for the local body at a function held at Kazhakuttam on Thursday.

The Mayor said that the project, being executed with the aid of Geographical Information System, would be helpful for the future development of the city. The project, which will study scientific land use and will collect basic data on water resources, is being executed jointly by the State Land Use Board and the city Corporation.

Land Use Commissioner A. Nizamudeen said that information gathering would be conducted in all the 100 wards and maps would be prepared. Unused land in the Corporation area will be surveyed and the most suitable use pattern for the particular area will be ascertained for future purposes.

This project will later aid in planning the suitable farming techniques for the specific area and in identifying suitable location for waste treatment facilities.
