Three mobile phones were seized by jail authorities from the premises of the Open Jail at Nettukaltheri here on Saturday.

These were apart from the five mobile phones and accessories that were seized on Friday during a raid at the annexe of the Open Jail in the State Institute of Correctional Administration compound at Thevankode.

According to Neyyar Dam Sub Inspector Binu Kumar, the three mobile phones found on Saturday were spotted during a search carried out by jail staff.

Two of these handsets did not have SIM cards.

The SIM card from the third one, along with the SIM cards recovered from the five mobile phones that were seized on Friday, would be handed over to the Cyber Cell to trace call and SMS details, he said.

Manoj Chandran, Circle Inspector, Kattakada, said the raids and inspections would continue.

The raid on Friday, supervised by Deputy Inspector General of Prisons (South Zone) B. Pradeep, on the Thevancode campus of the Open Jail had resulted in the seizure of five mobile phones from five of the inmates, along with accessories that included four chargers, three headphones, two additional batteries, a three-pin socket and an additional SIM card.

A case had been registered by the Neyyar Dam police station in connection with the seizures and investigation into how these had reached the inmates was already on, Mr. Chandran said.

Necessary action would be initiated against the inmates once the investigation was over.
