A three-wheeler vehicle was flagged off and canes were distributed to the visually impaired to mark the inauguration of ‘Jyothirgamaya’, a project to take schools to the doorstep of the visually challenged, at Kanthari Institute in Vellayani on Monday.

The programme was inaugurated by Minister for Panchayat and Social Welfare M.K. Muneer. The vehicle was flagged off by Minister for Labour and Rehabilitation Shibu Baby John.

Mr. Muneer lauded the efforts of the organisations involved in the project, including Braille Without Borders and Kanthari. Being coordinated by one of the volunteers, Tiffany Maria Brar, the initiative seeks to teach daily living skills to visually challenged children in the city. The Minister also invited Ms. Tiffany to the Social Welfare Department to present the vehicle. “This is something that the government should have worked on and come up with,” he said, promising all necessary assistance in the development of the programme.
