Kerala Public Works Minister P. J. Joseph inaugurated the distribution of mobile phones with connections to the assistant executive engineers of his Department as part of modernisation of the Department here on Wednesday.

The phones would be used to respond to complaints about condition of roads and works received through the toll free helpline 1800-425-7771.

The Minister said that the 250 numbers being allocated to the PWD sub-divisions as closed user group would remain with the division, when the assistant executive engineers are transferred out of the divisions. The engineers were to call the complainants within two days and inform him of the action being taken. In case of technical difficulties in redressing complaints, that would also have to be communicated.

Mr. Joseph said that training programmes would be organised for the engineers in the coming weeks to improve their functioning and dealings with the public. Their work in resolving the complaints were being monitored online through a specially developed monitoring and evaluation tool.
