The third edition of the Trivandrum Marathon will be held in the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday.

The marathon is being organised by the Thiruvananthapuram Runners’ Club in association with the Indian Medical Association (IMA) Kerala Chapter, to promote ‘Healthy living and Organ Donation’.

The races will begin at Saturday midnight, which is a first for the city. The official inauguration will be held at 7 p.m. on Saturday.

The route

Though the event would focus on the main races — the 10 km, half marathon (21.09km) and full marathon (42.19 km) — there would also be a special 2-km ‘Fun Run’, that would be flagged off at 10 p.m., to encourage public participation in the event. The run will have a loop of 10.5 km covering Manaveeyam Veedhi, LMS, Ayurveda College Jn., LMS, Vellayambalam, Trivandrum Tennis Club (TTC), Vellayambalam, Sasthamangalam and back at Manaveeyam Veedhi. The same loop will be done twice by half marathoners and four times by full marathoners.

Street festival

Those who finish first would get a medal, an event T-shirt and breakfast as part of registration.

Runners will be supported by water stations and energy drinks too. A food court will be set up for the public. To ensure that there is something for everyone, a street festival is being organised on the Manaveeyam Veedhi from 6 p.m. The festival would feature skits by the Indian Medical Association to spread awareness about organ donation, performances by music bands, Singarimelam and other shows under the banner ‘Chilambattam’.

Traffic restrictions

Assistant Police Commissioner (Traffic-North) said in a press note that traffic restrictions would be in force on the route of the marathon. Vehicles would be diverted from the Manaveeyam Veedhi to Museum-Nandavanam road on Saturday evening.

Parking will not be permitted on the marathon route during the course of the marathon, the press note said.
