Shashi Tharoor and Sunanda Pushkar at the Sri Chithra Poor Home for children in Thiruvananthapuram on Monday noon.

It was a ‘celebrity lunch' for the children of the Sree Chitra Home, here, on Thiruvonam day in the company of Thiruvananthapuram MP Shashi Tharoor and his wife, Sunanda Pushkar.

Mr. Tharoor and his wife reached the Home after a reception organised at the Trivandrum Club earlier in the day.

The reception was attended, among others, by Ministers Benoy Viswom and M. A. Baby, Leader of the Opposition Oommen Chandy, Deputy Leader of the Opposition G. Karthikeyan, KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala and A. Sampath, MP.

Puppet show

Before the Onam feast at the Home, the newly-weds and the children were treated to a puppet show.

After lunch, it was time for the age-old Onam past time — the swings. Home warden M. Sulochana said here later that Mr. Tharoor and Ms. Pushkar told the children that they would come back to the Home very soon.

Help for dining hall

“The MP also told us that he would help us build a new dining hall. He said that this year's MP fund had already been allocated to various things and he would help us out next year,” she said.

Mr. Tharoor's sons Ishaan and Kanishk, his mother Lily Tharoor and Ms. Pushkar's son Shiva were present on the occasion. According to Mr. Tharoor's office here, the couple will leave for New Delhi on Tuesday and from there, possibly, for Germany.
