According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Sumalakshmi, 29, of Thottappally Illam at Paruthippara.

She was on her way to Alappuzha, along with her husband Ajith T. Vijayan, 31, and their seven-month-old son Adhinath,

She succumbed to her injuries en route to the medical college hospital.

Discharged

Ajith and the infant were discharged from the private hospital later in the day after being treated for minor injuries.

Sumalakshmi was a second-year postgraduate student of the Department of Anatomy of Thiruvananthapuram Medical College.

After post-mortem, the body was kept on the medical college premises for her teachers, colleagues and the public to pay last respects. The mortal remains were later handed over to the relatives. According to Attingal Circle Inspector Sunil Kumar, the police were investigating claims that a tourist bus had hit the car in which they were travelling, following which the car rammed the lorry.

Inspected

“Soon after the incident, the police inspected a Thiruvananthapuram-bound tourist bus that had come from Bengaluru and was found to be parked nearby. The bus will be inspected again for dents that could prove if it had been involved in the accident,” he said.
