A slew of development projects, including the strengthening of diagnostic services, new connecting corridors and more equipment and manpower, are on the anvil for the Government Medical College Hospital (MCH) here, Health Minister V.S. Sivakumar has said.
The Minister, who visited the MCH here on Friday, said he would soon convene a meeting of all stakeholders to discuss how the hospital could be maintained strictly as a referral hospital.
Connecting corridor
MCH administrators presented before the Minister the requirement of a connecting corridor between the new OP block, the central diagnostics block, and the old main block which are on either side of the road on the campus. The MCH and SAT Hospital would soon have one 16-slice CT scan machine each. MCH would get a laboratory where advanced tests would be offered at rates lower than those in private labs. Fifty new trolleys and wheelchairs each would be bought for the casualty wing and 12 new persons (trolley men) would be engaged for managing the trolley services. Two bio-medical engineers would be engaged for the upkeep of medical equipment. More lab technicians, pharmacists, physiotherapists, security staff, and lift operators would be recruited. NRHM Director M. Beena has been entrusted with the task of looking into complaints regarding drug prescription malpractices.
