The Cabinet on Wednesday decided to take over 50 acres offered by the Chandraprabha Charitable Trust for the proposed government medical college (MC) in Wayanad district. The land, which was now in possession of the trust, is at Madakkimala in Kottathara village of the district, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy told the media after the weekly Cabinet meeting.
The Chief Minister said that 350 posts would be created for the Cooperative Medical College in Kochi as the first phase for fulfilling the requirements of the All India Medical Council. As per the council norms, the college additionally required 832 posts. A decision on creation of more posts would be taken in a month.
Mr. Chandy said that the Cabinet had approved the proposal for revision of pay scales of general workers of the public sector company Oushadi in Thrissur.
It had also sanctioned an additional Rs. 2 crore for the conduct of Kochi-Muziris Bienalle 2014. The decision has been taken following the request of the organisers for more financial assistance. The government had earlier sanctioned Rs. 2 crore for the event. The lease of 18.3 acres to Hindustan Insecticides Limited, Kochi, would be renewed. The rent would be reduced on the lines of concession granted to FACT to help the company to clear arrears.
A government job would be given to B.G. Saran who lost an eye during a cleaning drive when he was a student of VII standard at Chovaloor NSS Higher Secondary School in 2006. The government had promised him a job then.
