Mayor K. Chandrika on Wednesday convened a meeting of theatre owners ahead of the 16th International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK), which will commence in the city on December 9.

The Mayor directed the theatre owners to ensure that festival theatres were renovated and facilities for delegates were in place before the start of the film festival. Directions have been given to theatre owners to repair damaged seats, ensure cleanliness of toilets and theatre premises and the quality of food sold at snack bars of theatres.

“We had given advance notice to all festival theatre owners to complete renovation work before the festival begins. Apart from a few, renovation work in most festival theatres has been completed. Others said the works would be completed by Thursday,” Ms. Chandrika said.

She said Corporation health inspectors would conduct frequent inspections at festival theatres. Inspections will also be conducted in hotels near festival theatres.

“We have also given directions to theatre owners to show slide-shows to disseminate public information messages. Use of mobile phones in theatres would be strictly restricted,'' Ms. Chandrika said.

She added that the open space in front of Sree Kumar theatre will be earmarked exclusively for parking of delegates' vehicles.

Kerala State Chalachitra Academy festival deputy director Beena Paul was also present at the meeting.
