The Sree Padmanabhaswamy temple in Thiruvananthapuram will be getting a new temple mast in place of the old one that is found to be falling apart.
Thiruvananthapuram District Judge K. Babu, who is also the Temple Administrative Committee chairman appointed by the Supreme Court, told The Hindu that the teak tree best suited for the new temple mast had been spotted in the Konni forests.
Another tree
Another teak tree would be cut for carrying out the repair works on the sanctum sanctorum of the temple.
As it being the custom and tradition, temple tantris Tharananalloor Satheesan Namboodiripad and Tharananalloor Saji Namboodirpad performed ‘Vriskhapuja’ to the teak trees on Saturday. Mr Babu said the teak tree for the temple mast would be felled carefully without letting it touch the ground on Monday.
The wood would be taken to Thiruvananthapuram in a ceremonial procession on Tuesday. The procession carrying the wood would reach the temple after accepting ceremonial receptions at various places en route on Wednesday.
Medicated oil
The wood would be treated with specially prepared medicated oil. Mr Babu said 14 more teak trees were identified in the Konni forests for felling for carrying out various repair works on the temple complex.
