Marijuana seized; 3 held

The Rural police have seized nearly 20 kg of marijuana sourced from Kambam-Theni region in neighbouring Tamil Nadu and arrested three persons.

X.R. Rustam, Dy. SP, Neyyatinkara, identified the arrested as Aravind, 21, and Kannan, 22, both residents of Poovar. He said the youth regularly made trips to Tamil Nadu to source the drug from wholesalers at an estimated Rs 12,000 a kg. They sold the drug to a local woman, Jinji, was has also been arrested, at Rs.50,000.

Jinji, in turn, retailed the drug through a set of small-time peddlers. The police said they seized Rs.31,000 and 6 kg of marijuana from Jinju’s house in Poovar. District Police Chief A.J. Thomaskutty and Circle Inspector, Poovar, S. Binu, headed the operation.
