A person who was involved in a drunk brawl late Monday died a few hours later at a hospital in Neyyattinkara. The police have registered a case and are looking into a complaint lodged by his family that he was beaten to death.

According to the police, Sherin of Alathoor, a driver, was involved in a brawl after consuming alcohol with his friends around 11 p.m. on Monday night.

He sustained injuries, following which he was taken to a local hospital, where he died on Tuesday morning.

His family lodged a complaint following which the police have registered a case and are investigating.


One among those accused of manhandling two election officials on Sunday was arrested on Tuesday.

According to the Kazhakuttam police, Saji, 30, of Kazhakuttam, a Youth Congress leader, was arrested from his residence on Monday morning on the charge of assaulting two election officials who were video-recording an election campaign meeting of the United Democratic Front at the Amman Kovil hall at Kazhakuttam on Sunday.

Saji was produced before court and remanded in judicial custody while the police are on the lookout for the other accused.
