Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has described freedom fighter K.E. Mammen, who died here on Thursday, as ‘a Gandhian revolutionary’.

Inaugurating a meeting held here on Friday to condole Mammen’s death, the Chief Minister said he was a true son of the period that gave birth to hundreds of bravehearts. Young men and women left their homes during those days with no hope of returning to see their near and dear ones.

The many battles that Mammen waged during recent times should not be seen merely as the actions of a lonely person, but as being representative of an era of courage and readiness for sacrifices.

Mr. Vijayan emphasised the need to inculcate in the minds of the new generation the values that persons like Mammen represented. His mind was always vigilant and he took positions only after closely examining each issue for its ethical and moral content. There must be serious introspection on how best the knowledge about Mammen and his life could be taken closer to the new generation, he added.
