Nissim Mannathukkaren, assistant professor and director of graduate program of the International Development Studies Department at Dalhousie University, Canada, has won the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) research award.
The award, worth approximately 20,000 Canadian dollars, is for his project ‘Unveiling the Janus of Modernity: A Case Study of Kerala”.
The SSHRC is Canada's premier federal funding agency for university-based research in social sciences and humanities.
Dr. Mannathukkaren was one of the five Indians to be awarded the prestigious Commonwealth Scholarship (Canada) for doctoral studies in 2000 which carried a total funding of 1,61,000 Canadian dollars.
Hailing from Muvattupuzha, he completed his MA and M Phil degrees from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, and PhD from Queen's University, Canada. He is the author of the book The Rupture with Memory: Derrida and the Spectres that Haunt Marxism published by Navayana.
