For a group of differently abled children from various parts of the city, a dream came true on Wednesday with most of them experiencing cinema inside a move hall for the first time. Helping Hands Organization (H2O), an NGO, along with the cast and crew of the Malayalam film Mummyude Swantham Achoos brought the children here in the afternoon for a special screening of the film, which deals with issues faced by a differently abled child and his family.
Raju Michael, who has directed and acted in the film, said it was a part of his attempts to bring such children to the mainstream.
“This movie is about a family that includes a differently abled child, the problems they face and how the family and society strive to bring the child back to normal. Most children with such conditions spend time inside their homes, rarely getting an opportunity to interact with the outside world. Society thinks that they are unable to enjoy life like others and they too end up believing that. No socialising happens. This is an attempt to bring them out and interact with others,” says Mr. Raju.
His son, Renish Raju, the film’s protagonist, played with the children as they waited for the screening. “This film has a valuable message and we wanted to make sure that it reaches the wider society,” said Mr. Raju.
