Efforts should be made to increase the participation in Kudumbasree’s Balasabhas, Local Self Government Minister K.T. Jaleel has said. He was delivering the inaugural address at Kudumbasree’s Children’s Parliament, held at the old Legislative Assembly hall at the Secretariat on Tuesday.

While Kudumbasree has around 44 lakh members, the Balasabha has only around 8 lakh.

This gap should be closed, the Minister said, adding that the Balasabhas will be useful for creating awareness about regional issues and development potential at a young age.

It would also be a platform for children to interact with peers from different religious and economic backgrounds, which was essential for national integration, Mr. Jaleel said on the occasion.
