Local body chief attends seminar in Johannesburg

District panchayat president Remani P. Nair and member Malayankeezhu Venugopal participated in a national dissemination seminar in South Africa organised jointly by the Commonwealth Local Governance Forum (CLGF) and South Africa Local Government Association.

Ms. Nair and Mr. Venugopal, the only local government representatives from India invited for the seminar, presented papers on the CLGF partnership programme between Thiruvananthapuram district panchayat and Mopani district municipality in South Africa at the seminar held on October 4 and 5 at the South African capital of Johannesburg, a statement released here said. As part of the programme between the two local bodies, a range of agri culture and animal husbandry schemes were being implemented in Mopani district municipality with the technical support and knowledge sharing with Thiruvananthapuram district panchayat.

The district panchayat president would lead a delegation of panchayat and agriculture department officials to Mopani in the last week of October as part of the third phase implementation of the programme, the statement said.
