Load-shedding plan changes

April 18, 2013 02:13 am | Updated November 17, 2021 04:15 am IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) will revise the load-shedding schedule from Thursday. As per the revised schedule approved by the board on Wednesday, there will be no 30-minute load-shedding between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m., but it will be continuous one-hour load-shedding between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

The evening schedule has been fixed for 30 minutes between 7 p.m. and 11 p.m.

Board sources told The Hindu here that a 30-minute load-shedding had also been proposed between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m. in case of an exigency.

The alteration of the daytime schedule would put an end to the undeclared load-shedding in force from April 1 and help consumers know the load-shedding timings in advance.

Since the demand between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. is comparatively high, machines may be unable to bear the load, which may force the board to go in for undeclared load-shedding in this slot.

This may not be needed on all days but at least on those days when the demand peaks.

The load-shedding between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. had helped the board to restrict the demand. It has been able to save about 2 mu from the undeclared load-shedding during daytime.

On settling a dispute at the coal plants in Odisha, the power supply to Kerala has improved by getting 400 to 500 MW.

The supply from the southern region remained between 350 MW and 450 MW.
