The Health Minister, on Friday, inaugurated the new exit road from the Thiruvananthapuram MCH Super Speciality Block (SS Block) to the main road.

An intensive care unit — Bleed ICU — to manage gastrointestinal bleeds, will be opened at the Medical College Hospital (MCH) here, Health Minister V.S. Sivakumar has said.

The Health Minister, on Friday, inaugurated the new exit road from the MCH Super Speciality Block (SS Block) to the main road, the renovated Central Sterile Supply Division, a new power laundry, and a digital X-ray unit at SAT Hospital.

He said steps would be taken to strengthen the oncology facilities at MCH by introducing modern equipment and a liver transplant unit would also be started soon.

The new exit road from the SS Block, which is expected to ease the traffic on the MCH campus and the parking area, extending to 75 cents, has been developed using Rs.8.45 crore, including the cost of land acquisition. The Central Sterile Supply Department, which functions from the basement of the old main block, was renovated using Rs.2.7 crore while the new and modern power laundry with automatic washing, drying, and ironing facilities was acquired at a cost of Rs.81 lakh.

With the exception of the liquid oxygen plant and casualty renovation, almost all projects under the Pradhan Manthri Swathya Suraksha Yojana, had now been commissioned, Mr. Sivakumar said.
