The Kerala State Higher Education Council would consider giving shape to a permanent forum for academic interactions between various boards of study in universities and college teachers.
Council vice-chairman T.P. Sreenivasan told presspersons here that this was a major demand that surfaced during a meeting of the chairpersons of the graduate boards of study in various universities convened here on Tuesday by the council.
The main agenda of the meeting was to discuss the implementation aspects of the recommendation in the Hridayakumari committee on the choice-based credit and semester system relating to the functioning of the boards of study.
Shortly after the meeting began pro-LDF chairpersons rose to protest against the reasons for which the meeting was convened. While some of them maintained that the council had no right to tell boards of study what to do, others said they would not countenance what they termed were moves by the council to torpedo the credit and semester system.
Not satisfied with the responses given to them by Mr. Sreenivasan, these chairpersons walked out of the meeting raising slogans. Meanwhile, activists of the Students Federation of India (SFI) had gathered outside the the Science and Technology Museum premises that also house the council offices.
