The Left Democratic Front (LDF) is yet to discuss about the new liquor policy to be rolled out in the State, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has said.

He was replying to questions on Tuesday after the weekly cabinet meeting on whether the government will shut down 10 per cent of the liquor outlets on October 2 as per the liquor policy of the previous United Democratic Front in force since 2014.

“Liquor policy was not discussed in the Cabinet. We have not discussed anything. Let our liquor policy come,” Mr. Vijayan said to repeated queries.

According to the present policy, 10 per cent of the liquor outlets will have to be closed down on October 2 every year.

Since 2014, 68 Bevco and 10 Consumerfed outlets have been closed so far in the State.

On the Supreme Court’s verdict on the trial of Italian marines Salvatore Girone and Massimiliano Latorre, accused of killing two fishermen off the Kerala coast, the Chief Minister said the Centre was not following the rules from the beginning in the case.

“We have made it clear earlier that the Italian marines should face trial as per Indian laws.”

Mr. Vijayan said the National Food Security Act would be implemented in the State. The Food and Civil Supplies Minister was looking into the issue. The Cabinet also decided to sanction Rs. 8 lakh each to the family of those who drowned in the Thrikkandur river in Kozhikode on Sunday.
