LDF councillors lay siege to KSIE office

Delay in supply of street light fixtures

July 17, 2011 02:33 pm | Updated 02:33 pm IST - Thiruvananthapuram:

LDF councillors in the City Corporation on Saturday laid siege to the office of the Kerala State Industrial Enterprises (KSIE) here on Saturday in protest against the delay in supply of lamps and other fixtures for street lights.

Chairperson of the standing committee on works V.S. Padmakumar, who led the protest, said the KSIE was guilty of contractual violation in supplying the fixtures. “Despite being issued a supply order for 1,20,000 tube lights and 5,000 sodium vapour lamps three months ago, the KSIE has failed to deliver. Many parts of the city are in darkness. Ward councillors have to face public ire over the failure to replace damaged streetlights.”

Mr. Padmakumar said the KSIE had no grounds to delay the supply.

The councillors laid siege to the office of the KSIE marketing manager for over three hours. The agitation was withdrawn after the KSIE agreed to start the supply soon and complete the delivery of 65,000 tube lights and 5,000 sodium vapour lamps by next Wednesday.
