The Kovalam police have registered an FIR into the disappearance of a Latvian woman who had visited the Kovalam beach on Wednesday.

According to the police, 33-year-old Liga Skromane, a Latvian residing in Ireland, has been staying at an Ayurvedic healing centre at Pothencode since February 21 with her sister Ilze.

On Wednesday morning, her sister found that Liga was missing from her room, when she came back from her yoga session.

An autorickshaw driver in the locality later said that she had hired his vehicle and asked him to drop her at the Kovalam beach, which he did.

Sister files complaint

When she failed to turn up at the healing centre even by evening, her sister registered a complaint with the Kovalam police, who have been on the lookout for her ever since.

“We have been checking all the hotels in the beach area, but have not got any information till now. The Pothencode police are also carrying out a search operation in that area,” said the Kovalam police.

She was reportedly undergoing Ayurvedic treatment for mental depression, at the healing centre. At the time she went missing, she was wearing a blue t-shirt and black leggings.
