: The Kerala Region Latin Catholic Council has accused the Congress leadership of failing to honour its commitment to the Latin Catholic community that had backed the party in the recent elections to local bodies.
The political affairs committee of the council which met here on Thursday said the Congress had gone back on its word to nominate a person from the community as the Mayor of Kochi. After it had secured the requisite numbers in the corporation council, the party leadership came up with new parameters to bypass the commitment, the meeting alleged. It said the community would express its resentment with the party in the forthcoming elections to the State Assembly. The council would initiate family get-togethers to discuss the community’s strategy for the Assembly elections. Archbishop Soosa Pakyam presided. KRLCC general secretary Fr. Francis Xavier, Monsignor Eugene Pereira and Monsignor James Kulas were among those who spoke.
