A business process outsourcing (BPO) company at Technopark here will be issued an inspection order by the Labour Commissioner on Saturday, asking it to submit the necessary documents and to be present before the commissioner next week.
In an inspection conducted by the Labour Commissioner's office on Thursday, the company was found violating various rules. This was following a complaint registered against it by some of the employees on grounds of ill-treatment and refusal to pay minimum wages.
“An inspection order will be sent to the vice-president of the company to submit various registers and documents as required by the commission. They will be also asked to appear before the commission on June 13. Further actions will follow depending on the reply from the company officials,” Assistant Labour Officer, Kazhakkuttom, Ram Mohan told The Hindu .
The company was found violating various rules under the Shops and Commercial Establishments Act (1960), Minimum Wages Act (1948), Payment of Wages Act (1936), and Maternity Benefit Act (1961) during the inspection. “The company should implement the various instructions and penalties in the order, failing which it will be issued a show-cause notice,” said Mr. Mohan.
A senior official at Technopark said the company was a relatively new one with less experienced hands, and so there were some serious flaws in the dealings by the company's human resources (HR) department.
The company officials were not available for comment.
