The Kerala Water Authority (KWA) is looking into the cause of the burst in the 700-mm water supply line of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) at Murinjapalam on Thursday night.
The pipeline is meant to ferry water from the Observatory at Vellayambalam to Veli.
KWA Managing Director Ashok Kumar Singh said the terrain at the Murinjapalam junction, where the burst occurred, was difficult to lay the pipeline, and several bends had been provided to connect the pipes. Normally, it took a few months for the bends to stabilise, he said.
A KWA official attached to the JICA said the burst occurred when the charging of the pipeline was carried out. The leak would be plugged in two days and charging would be restored. Such leaks occurred during trial runs, he said. The pipeline is to be commissioned in two months. There was no disruption in the supply of water in the city as the pipeline is yet to be connected to the rest of the network.
