Kudumbasree plans to set up gender resource centres at the block level to promote women’s skills and equip them to create their space in society.
The model centres, five in each district, will be set up in association with local self-government institutions.
The support of ‘vigilant group committees’ comprising local ward members and social activists will be ensured.
The centres will function as facilities that will make available information related to women and children.
Ensuring services
The services of community counsellors and and resource persons will also be ensured under the aegis of Kudumbasree.
These centres are envisaged as permanent mechanisms that will provide counselling, premarital counselling and so on to enable women, children, and adolescent girls to face various problems, including violence, and increase their confidence.
Leadership skills
The resultant stress on women’s perspective is expected to increase the leadership skills and ability of women self-help group members and women people’s representatives.
Jagratha
Activities to strengthen the ‘jagratha’ committees and increasing support to them to check violence against women and give protection to them in all areas have begun. Job opportunities in farm microenterprises to improve the financial situation of the self-help group women will be explored.
