The University of Kerala will immediately switch over to an online mode of revaluating the answer sheets of all examinations.
Under a scheme approved by the Syndicate here on Tuesday, the answer sheets will be brought to the University office from the respective valuation camps within 10 days of the receipt of an application for revaluation. There, each page will be scanned and the electronic version of each answer sheet will be mailed to the lecturers concerned.
After evaluating these answer sheets, the academics should note the marks in the format prescribed by the University and email them back. Using custom-made software, this data will be directly imported to the varsity’s tabulation sheets.
“From application to publication of the revaluation results, it should not take more than 35 to 40 days,” Syndicate member Jyothikumar Chamakkala told The Hindu . “This scheme was piloted by me in the Syndicate in response to the growing number of court observations regarding the system of revaluation in our university.”
The Syndicate resolved to sanction an ‘evening course’ in M.Tech at the Sree Chithra Thirunal College of Engineering, Pappanamcode. It was decided that for an institution to be sanctioned an M.Tech course in a branch, at least one batch of B.Tech students should have passed out in that branch with an aggregate pass percentage of 50.
The Director Technical Education would be asked to explain why he raised the seats for the M.Tech course in the College of Engineering, Thiruvananthapuram, from seven to 18 without the prior sanction of the University.
No additional batches or enhanced intake for the existing batches of B.Tech courses would be allowed for 2013-14. In colleges where courses were being wound up with the permission of the AICTE, the University would grant batches with equivalent seats in branches chosen by the institution, the Syndicate decided.
The University would also enter into an MoU with Keltron for the automation of the varsity Finance Wing and for the setting up a research portal. It was also decided to prepare and constantly update a databank of teachers in all affiliated colleges of the University.
The Syndicate also decided to ask its staff committee to come up with a proposal to amend the University Act so that all single posts could be clubbed to allow application of reservation norms for recruitment to such posts. The Syndicate resolved that the vacation time for teachers, for the CBCSS courses, would be in November and April. A commitee would be set up to form an academic calendar on this basis.
All University employees whose absence from work was unauthorised, would be given time till March 31, 2013, to rejoin duty, the Syndicate decided. But they must do so as the junior-most in the entry cadre of the varsity service. Mr. Chamakkala said the Syndicate decided to terminate the services of C. S. Sujith, Assistant Professor in the Department of Hindi, after an enquiry confirmed allegations of misconduct on his part, including sending obscene messages to a woman’s mobile phone.
The Syndicate rejected a proposal to allocate an acre of land inside the Kariavattom campus for the Kerala State Higher Education Council.
