KSRTC services in district to be affected

December 17, 2014 09:59 am | Updated 09:59 am IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

Bus services of the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) are likely to be affected on Wednesday on account of the dawn-to-dusk strike in the district by employees of two recognised unions in the transport utility in support of their demands.

Although the strike has been declared only in the district, long-distance buses of the KSRTC coming via National Highway 66 and M.C. Road will not able to come to the Central bus station at Thampanoor. These buses will be terminated in the KSRTC depots on the district border, a KSRTC official said.

The city bus services will also be affected. The commuters will have to depend on the 106 private stage carriers in the capital for commuting. As examinations are on for schools, the token stir will cause inconvenience to those depending on the KSRTC.

Sabarimala services have been exempted from the strike. The strike call has been given by the CITU-affiliated Kerala State Road Transport Employees Association (KSRTEA) and the Congress-affiliated Transport Democratic Front (TDF).

The unions are agitating in support of their long-pending demands, including a permanent solution to disbursement of pension. The talks convened by the Minister for Transport Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan on Monday to avert the strike had failed.
